Nicki Minaj Tells Ellen That She ‘Wanted to Punch’ Travis Scott After ‘Queen’ Failed to Go No. 1
“I felt like I wanted to punch him in his fucking face!” said Nicki when Ellen asked her about Queen’s defeat to Astroworld. “I’ve had a No. 2 album, and I never cared. It’s just when you have a No. 2 album to someone who’s selling shirts and merch and selling passes for a tour that’s not even announced yet, it feels like you’re being tricked. It feels like someone is playing a game and beating you at a game as opposed to just selling music. I wanna sell music.”
Minaj also crowned Queen the No. 1 album, despite the tallied results. “So I wanna say — he didn’t have the No. 1 album. Queen was the No. 1 album,” Minaj told Ellen.
When Queen was released last month, Minaj’s fourth studio offering moved 185,000 equivalent album units, losing out to Scott’s third album by 20,000. Minaj shared her feelings about the albums race on Twitter. “I looked at the numbers the Carters, Kanye, Nas, etc recently did. Travis sold 200k in his first week of clothes alone,” she tweeted. “I spoke to him. He knows he doesn’t have the #1 album this week. I love my fans for the #1 album in AMERICA! I’ll explain on #QueenRadio 4 albums in, #1 in 86 countries.”
