Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter V” Reportedly Dropping This Month
The wait for Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V may finally be coming to an end. Today (Sept. 12), Young Money’s Twitter account shared what purports to be the album’s new cover art.
The image features Weezy’s name and the album title next to an open palm, spotlit in red light, on which the words “The World” are written. Eight fire emojis trace the bottom of the frame. “Put them 5s up,” the account captioned the post.
It’s the first tangible sign in months that the album’s rollout may be in motion. Tunechi originally planned to drop the project in 2014, but months of delays ultimately led to the rapper suing Cash Money Records in order to leave the label and gain control over his catalog’s copyrights—a legal battle that was settled for an undisclosed amount this past May.
As for what to expect from the album, Weezy released what was intended as a lead single back in 2014, “Believe Me,” featuring Drake and produced by Boi-1da and Vinylz. Lil Twist is also on record claiming that Mannie Fresh contributed production on the reported double-disc, which he described last August as “insane.”
Tha Carter IV dropped all the way back in 2011. Weezy’s last official releases were the mixtapes Dedication 6 and Dedication 6: Reloaded, which dropped this past December and January, respectively.
